Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Lowlight (1958) – Exceptionally beautiful and highly collectible
For sale: an exceptionally Volkswagen Karmann Ghia from 1958, a so-called “Lowlight” – a model that is becoming increasingly appreciated among enthusiasts and collectors.
We originally sold this car at the beginning of this century, and it has since been fully restored. The result is a beautifully finished example, in excellent condition both visually and mechanically. The bodywork is very straight and has been restored to a high standard. Originally from California, the car required very little welding at the time. There are no signs of accident damage or past repairs.
What makes this Karmann Ghia particularly special are its rare and desirable options. It is equipped with the almost impossible-to-find tachometer, an Ampco lubrication system, a lockable gear shifter, and an original Blaupunkt radio – features that enhance both its uniqueness and appeal to collectors.
We have checked the engine number, and it falls within the correct range for the production year. It is therefore very likely that the car still retains its original matching-numbers engine, further adding to its authenticity and value.
This specific Lowlight was also present at the prestigious Hessisch Oldendorf event in 2022 – a testament to its quality and appearance.
The Karmann Ghia Lowlight is often compared to the Porsche 356: just as elegant—some would say even more so—but significantly more affordable and considerably rarer. Beyond the sheer enjoyment of owning and driving such a car, it also represents a sound investment for the future.
In short: a rare, beautifully restored and highly correct Karmann Ghia Lowlight, ready for its next enthusiast.
