For sale: a unique and characterful 1964 Volkswagen Type 2 splitscreen pickup – a rolling piece of history with a remarkable story.
This pickup was sold new in 1964 in Antioch by the Volkswagen dealer J.C. Dunn Motors. A special detail: the original purchase invoice is still present, along with various historical receipts. Even the original dealer license plate frame has been preserved – a rare touch of authenticity.
The first owner, Mr. Hurkman, ordered this pickup new and selected just one extra option: an additional cargo door beneath the load bed (dual treasure chest) – a luxury feature that cost only $29.95 at the time. The truck served faithfully for many years before falling into obscurity in 1996.
In 2005, we rediscovered this special Type 2 during one of our California trips in Bakersfield. Once it arrived in the Netherlands, it quickly found a new enthusiast owner. For him, we carried out a mild lowering: dropped spindles at the front and one spline down at the rear. We also made the pickup mechanically sound and fitted it with stylish Flat4 wheels and Safari windows.
Now, 21 years later, this iconic pickup has returned to Kieft & Klok, ready for its next owner to cherish for the next 20 years.
Are you looking for a beautiful, honest patina pickup where every dent tells a story? Look no further. Finding one like this has become increasingly rare.
Guaranteed to turn heads and deliver pure driving enjoyment!
